Satsumamoons premium and best mohair is sold for use with polymer clay fairy making- for which the hair quality and style is whats important -not the shape of the hide.

When people use this hair for fairies, they cut locks of the hair off the suede and throw the suede away.

This means that sometimes peices will be irregular or may even be cut to a different size eg
a peice advertised as being 12x10cm may actually measure 6x20cm,
So if its important to you to have a specifically sized 12x 10cm peice for some other purpose, or you need a seamless peice for sewing,  please email before buying.

HAIR QUALITY

PREMIUM; The best mohair for fairy sculptures, usually from the centre hide.
There are only half a dozen of these peices on a good hide - there are no peices like this on a lot of hides!

There is no waste. This hair is for the best and most exquisite sculptures.

You only need this grade if you are planning to use the locks 'as is'.This mohair is hard to come by and is simply a wast for hair styled  with lotions and brushes -best grade should be used.

PREMIUM-BEST  Sometimes these peices contain both premium and best locks. Sometimes its just a corner of frizz which down grades the whole peice. Sometimes they would be premium grade if only they had nicer curls. Sometimes its just not silky enought to be graded as premium. Sometimes its just the length which down grades it.Usually, I cant quite put my finger on it ,it just doesnt quite smack of perfection!

BEST; For the general sculptor, or those who use lotions and combs to style the hair.

Maybe it wont be as cutesie curly.Maybe it wont quite be as sleek, but it is still BEST mohair.

Often you wont notice a huge difference between this and Premium. Sometimes peices are cut larger than the stated size, this happens if I need to compensate any unusable or less than best hair in the centre.

REGULAR;The quality is overall good, but will not be so curly and will include a few small frizzy or tangled parts.

this is suited to fairies made for fun, practice or for friends. Its the perfect choice for ooak trolls or doggis who dont need perfect curly locks at all!

TROLL; Pot luck odds and ends and scruffy bits -mostly for pincushins, mosters, trolls -some bits might be suitable for fairies. Every purchaser has so far been delighted with the value.

Helpful information
On hide mohair is easy and delightful to use on polymer sculptures;
Cut the mohair to required length and start at back of head.
Glue a little of the head at a time with fabritac glue, attatch some mohair  and repeat.
Fabritac dries really quickly so have your section of mohair ready before you put the glue on.
Dont use a brush for the glue -it will dry and be useless immediately.
Use something like  small lollipop sticks, or a silicone tipped colour/clay shaper.
You can  peel dried glue off a colour shaper in a second.

If you want to use it on the hide (for trolls and bears etc) I recommend that you get a
Leather needle
A sewing needle is designed to move between fibres of fabric,  using one with leather or suede will be very hard work.
There are no fibers in leather, so the leather needle is designed to cut a little hole very effortlessly.
You can buy leather needles in any good sewing shop or online.
The suede on this sort of fur is generally soft enough for a size 12  or 14 leather needle.
